Discussing Sino-British College lecturer Christian Göttker’s research at our next free East-West Leadership webinar addresses two questions I often hear. One is how the next, younger generation of Western expats see China differently from my own early-2000s cohort. Another is whether smaller Western firms still have a chance in a Chinese market dominated by established multinationals, local champions, state-owned firms, and other behemoths.

Last Summer, Christian approached me for an interview on how I see the effects of the recent pandemic on the management localisation of European small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in China. Next week is my turn: I will ask him about what he found from his research, what has changed since then (something always does in China) and how he recommends business leaders adapt to the dramatically changed environment of post-pandemic China.
